Jason-2 satellite launched to measure sea levels

Friday, June 20, 2008 The Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM), or Jason-2, satellite, has been launched into low Earth orbit. A Delta II rocket carrying the satellite lifted off from Space Launch Complex 2W at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, United States, at 07:46 GMT this morning. Spacecraft separation occurred around an hour later, and the solar panels on the satellite have deployed. Afghanistan’s parliament rejects Karzai’s cabinet nominations

Saturday, January 2, 2010 The Afghan parliament has rejected president Hamid Karzai’s nominees for his new cabinet. Karzai had nominated 24 persons to fill vacancies, although only seven were approved. Of the nominees rejected include incumbent Energy Minister Ismail Kha, and the incumbent minister of Women’s Affairs. It did however approve the nominees for the positions of Defense, Interior, and Finance ministers. New Zealand boarding school closed due to gastro-enteritis outbreak

Friday, March 17, 2006 Nelson Boys College was closed today because of an outbreak of gastro-enteritis in its boarding houses. About 40% of the school’s boarding students have been hit with what is thought to be the highly contagious and violent stomach bug, Norovirus. The principal, Salvi Garguilo, says the boys are being well cared for at the school, helped by Nelson Hospital. They will stay isolated until they are no longer contagious. Nelson College will reopen on Monday.
