Wednesday, September 26, 2007 Myanmar police have beaten up to 700 protesters with batons, according to witnesses. The crowd was gathered near a pagoda in Rangoon, and included students and Buddhist monks. AFP reported that only monks were allowed to enter the pagoda, and Reuters has quoted witnesses as saying that tear gas was used to disperse the monks. Some monks were taken away by police in trucks. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 Nine firefighters were killed on Monday while battling a massive fire at a furniture warehouse in Charleston, South Carolina. Firefighters were called to the scene of a massive blaze at the Sofa Super Store in Charleston, S.C. at around 6:30 p.m. EST. Hundreds feared dead after Indian ferry boat capsizes

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 A double-decker ferry capsized late Monday in the Brahmaputra River near Guwahati, India. The ferry was over capacity when a storm caused it to overturn and break in half. The ferry passengers were mostly women and children. Officials estimate there are at least 200 casualties.
